You’ve most probably heard that you are what you eat. And, the truth is, you really are what you eat even though you may have assumed it was your parents’ way of bribing you to eat your vegetables. If you eat a tuna sandwich, the tuna is broken down and the amino acids (proteins) from it are used in your body muscle building and cell generation! When you eat a lot of junk food, you may find that your skin color changes and you appear heavier, whereas when you ingest healthy foods, your overall appearance is slimmer. Thus, when you wish to slim down the first thing you should do is examine your diet. There’s no point in exercising if your diet is not healthy! Your diet must comprise of healthy nourishing foods.

So, what should you include in your good diet that will speed weight loss? You want to bring down calories so you will slim down, but you don’t want to starve yourself so much that you start to overeat junk food. It’s a good idea to slowly modify your eating habits by slowly putting in healthy food and decreasing the number of calories you eat. Slowly replace your meals and snacks with newer, more nourishing options. The most crucial thing to add to your diet is protein. Protein is one of the chief building blocks of your body and is needed for many body functions like building muscle and cell repair. It is not at all difficult to get enough protein by adding foods such as beef, chicken, pork, eggs, and soy products to your diet. Carbohydrates are the next most crucial nutrient you should add to your diet. However, you don’t want to binge on#eat too much carbohydrates because the unspent energy will become fat. Eat complex carbohydrates like whole grain bread and oats Finally, you need to include fats. Yes, even though you’re working to lose weight and excess fat, your body still needs dietary fats. Opt for healthy fats such as those you’ll find in nuts and fish. Also eat plenty of fresh greens and fruits so that your body gets all the vitamins and minerals it should have.

Know which food you should not eat. It goes without saying that you should reduce your intake of the empty calories of junk food, and it’s wise to only ingest lean meats. Avoid processed carbs in bread and pasta products and go for healthier whole grain options. Get rid of alcohol whenever feasible as it will not help you to lose weight.

You should now know the right foods to include in your diet and the ones you need to avoid. Do research on several healthy choices to replace your current eating habits. If eating too much at one sitting is a concern, eat 5 to 6 smaller meals during the day so that your belly will shrink and demand less food.
