Jonathan Brown fails fitness test for Lions against Adelaide at the Gabba

"NO, didn't quite get there." With those pained words, a visibly disappointed Brisbane captain Jonathan Brown broke the news he will not be bringing up his 200th AFL match against Adelaide today.

Brown went through a searching 45-minute fitness test at the Gabba yesterday in a bid to be cleared for his milestone game.

But the wrenched right knee he suffered in last week’s win over West Coast will cost him the opportunity to bring up the significant mark in front of his adoring home fans.

Brown is now likely to play his 200th match against Essendon at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium next Sunday.

During his workout, the 28-year-old appeared to be moving freely early but was later grimacing after the sprints and agility drills.

Brown then met with coach Michael Voss and medical staff in the middle of the Gabba to discuss his immediate fate.

Brown’s gloomy expressions did not improve and he walked off the ground to get immediate treatment on the knee.

Voss confirmed Brown’s omission just minutes later with a simple: "He’s out", before disappearing into the club rooms with his coaching staff to work on a plan B.

Brown will be replaced in the Brisbane line-up by either Tom Collier or Aaron Cornelius with Brent Staker promoted to a key position in the forward line.

However, Cornelius did not spend the whole training session with the main group to cast doubt over him being a straight swap for Brown.

Before yesterday’s light training session, everybody was on tenterhooks about Brown’s fitness.

Even the Lions cheer squad quizzed club officials and Voss about the captain’s availability so they could finish off the banner for today’s match.

"you think about a lot of things as a coach and the one thing you just forget about, and it’s not for deliberate reasons, is the banner. I’ve copped some heat there," Voss joked.

But he was serious about not letting the emotion of Brown’s impending milestone cloud selection decisions.

"it is not a factor. it doesn’t go into match committee. if he is right, he’s right. if he’s not, he’s not," Voss said.

"we can’t put players out there that are half-cooked.

"to put players out there that are fairly dodgy probably isn’t worthwhile. we want to make sure that in the back end of the season that Brownie is nice and healthy."

Voss was confident the week-long speculation over Brown’s fitness had not been a disruption to preparations for the Crows clash.

"The players on with business," he said. "There’s still 21 other players that have got to prepare for themselves."

Voss said the warm weather expected for the 1.10pm start could work in Brisbane’s favour and might dictate who comes into the 22 for Brown.

He said the Crows deserved respect after recently beating Geelong and pushing the Bulldogs to the limit last weekend.

I have no idea what you are talking about your question is far to long. I support the Tamils but the way the Tigers have been wreaking havoc in Sri Lanka its the governments right to defeat them, by almost any means.
