I could hardly catch my breath; it must have belonged to an instructor who’d forgotten it. I grabbed the mat and proceeded to have an incredible session. It didn’t have to be cute or pink I just wanted a mat that lasted longer than 6 months. The mats I was buying would begin to flake and by the end of class would end on my skin.
I laid it out in the sun all day. Washed it twice, used it four times, but still slippery. This mat is heavy. It provides good support, but it is not cushy or spongy.
Well worth the price. I bought this mat about a year and a half ago and love it!
This Yoga mat is awesome. It is three times as thick as my Gaiam mat that I bought in a yoga set. It’s cushion without mushiness. However, this cushion comes at the price of being quite heavy, heavier than four average mats combined! I have practiced yoga and am a hard-core exercise enthusiast since I was a teenager (over 10 years ago), and I am a personal trainer for the past 9 years, and this is the best mat I have ever owned or used. I purchased this yoga mat to use for home workouts – I practice yoga, and do high intensity interval training – and needed a new mat for cushion during intense ‘jumping’, and one that will not slide around. I also bought the Lumi towel (large size), also by Manduka, to put on the mat, since my hands and feet tend to sweat by the time I get to the middle of my routine, and this can make any mat slippery. I didn’t have any trouble with the coating on the mat — it wore off after a little bit, and I used the towel until it did. In the meantime, I am practicing on another mat because I could no longer take compromising my practice. When I use the mat, I actually lay a strap on the top of the mat so I have something to grip and ground down into.
The Manduka mat is larger, heavier and bulkier. I easily take it daily back and forth from house to garage but if I needed a mat to take to a class I would find something lighter and let my bones complain. If I accidentally lift it with my foot while moving around, it immediately settles back flat on the floor. The biggest and the most annoying negative feature is how much it slips.
I have been using the Pro for a few months now. I wanted to get it for cushioning because I have pretty bony feet and knees and I was getting red marks when I did certain poses. Well worth the price when I compare it to my $40 mat which was falling apart within a year. This is an excellent mat for all purposes.
If you bring your own mat you always know where it’s been. Plus, owning your own mat may encourage you to begin valuable practice at home.
There’s also an 85 inch version for you giants out there! GENERATOR SOUNDPROOF ENCLOSURE.
