Exercise And Asthma

Having problems with breathing, one may think that physical training is not appropriate and safe. On the contrary to a common belief about this, you can do exercises, even though you have asthma.

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that is marked by characteristics such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Asthma tends to occur with people who are genetically or environmentally predisposed to the condition.

Contact with dust mites or cockroaches, viruses in the air, hard physical exercises, exposure to allergens all this may attack your health.

You can prevent asthma attacks by doing the following:

1. If you have pets, be sure to bathe them weekly.

2. Omit active or passive smoking.

3. Stay indoors when mold or pollutant counts are high in the atmosphere. Be sure to be in an air- conditioned environment.

4. At least once per week wash your toys in hot water.

5. Wash your hands as often as possible.

6. Get your yearly flu shot.

7. Cover your nose and mouth with the scarf when going out in winter days.

8. Be proactive and know your triggers and how you should avoid them.

Now that you know what you know about asthma, you may be wondering where exercise fits in. As most doctors will tell you, you shouldn’t give up on sports or exercise at all. You just have to be smart about how you play and take special precautions to avoid attacks.

Most medical specialists agree that keeping your medication and inhaler close to you during exercise is the best way to avoid an attack. When exercising or in the middle of a game, never use your inhaler more than 3 times. If you find yourself coughing and wheezing the night before you plan to do activity, plan to spend that next day with light activity to not set off an attack.

If you have Exercise Induce Asthma symptoms may be different and may appear in 6-10 minutes after doing exercise. Cold and dry air is very harmful in this case.

To avoid the risk of the attack you can try swimming, jogging, biking or other kinds of sport in a team. There are different ways of doing exercises you really need if you have IEA.

Even though your doctor can always help to treat asthma, you should remember that it is a physiological problem and you have to do as much as possible to prevent symptoms.

Don’t be miserable about asthma – be smart about it. Remember to take your medication and be prepared. You can enjoy exercising and you can most definitely live and enjoy living like everyone else.
