About Exercise

Kids love to move their bodies. They don’t even think of it as exercise, it’s just something that feels good. They’ve attuned to their bodies just as animals are. You were a kid once, remember? Do you recall when you lost that joy in movement?

For most of us it was in school – we were trained to sit still. If we didn’t, we risked a poor grade in conduct. After years of such training, we were able to sit hours and hours without moving. Then came TV – more sitting. And when we gained weight, we became more of a spectator and less of a participant. Don’t you think it’s time to reverse that downward spiral?  Should we be walking, jogging, or roller skating to get back to what we once were?

Exercise should be a gift you give your body. Listen to your body, and it will tell you when it wants to move around and play. Do exercise that produces results for you and that you enjoy. If it’s unpleasant and makes you miserable, then don’t do it. Once you get in shape again, exercise will relax you, eliminate stress, and make you look younger and firmer.

Many people exercise as if they’re punishing their body. When they work out at the spa or gym, it’s almost as if they’re saying, “Take that! and that!” They look grim and don’t seem to be enjoying themselves at all. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Start very slowly. Risk being lazy. Just do a little today and a little tomorrow. In fact, you can usually cut in half what you think you can do easily, and even that will be too much. I takes six weeks to get in shape to start training at a high level. Is it any wonder that when you start out giving it all you have, you get sore and tired and want to quit?

Behind every curve in your body is a muscle, and how firm and well toned that muscle is determines how nice that curve looks. An attractive, well shape body is something most people have to work for, but it shouldn’t be painful. Exercising with weight and equipment is by far the fastest and surest way to get the shape you want.
